Anita & Mike's intimate London Wedding:
A Wedding Like No Other
Some weddings are massive affairs with hundreds of guests, but Anita and Mike went a different route—and I was lucky enough to document their beautifully unconventional day. This was a wedding like no other. As an Irish wedding photographer, being asked to travel to London to shoot their wedding I was so honoured and excited. My flights were booked and I was on my way..
Having met through mutual friends in London years ago, Anita and Mike’s story isn’t without its twists. They lost touch for a while before reconnecting and growing their relationship into something strong and enduring. Like so many couples, their wedding plans were delayed by the pandemic, but they finally made it happen—just the two of them and their two best friends.
A Morning with Anita, Mike… and Enid
The day started in Anita and Mike’s London flat, with mugs of tea, chocolate digestives, and their beloved cat, Enid, supervising the preparations. Their home was everything you’d imagine from an artist and a musician—full of character, creativity, and a fair bit of organised chaos.
Anita’s outfit was a show-stopper: a tailor-made electric blue suit paired with a red corset and red Alexander McQueen boots. Mike wasn’t about to be outdone, rocking a vibrant suit from Ozwald Boateng. Together, they were a vision, turning heads wherever they went.
Woolwich Town Hall: The Ceremony
The unseasonably warm March weather was a welcome surprise (although those McQueens proved more fashionable than functional, and Anita ended up swapping them for red flats—equally fabulous but equally uncomfortable!).
We hopped on a train to Woolwich Town Hall, a stunning location for their intimate ceremony. So intimate, in fact, that I wasn’t even allowed attend the ceremony—some insurance nonsense, apparently! But I didn’t mind waiting in the main hall; the place is gorgeous, and I made the most of the setting for photos afterward.
Drinks, Laughs, and Candlelight
After the ceremony, we grabbed a taxi to Greenwich for celebratory drinks. Anita, being the thoughtful legend she is, handed out quirky, personal gifts to her friends—and even included me!
Originally, the plan was to catch a boat down the Thames, but timing didn’t play ball. No matter—another train brought us to Bank, and we ended the evening at The Ned. A candlelit dinner, shoes off, a few drinks, and a cosy overnight stay for the newlyweds. It was the perfect end to a the most extraordinary day.
