If you’re planning a wedding in Connemara or anywhere along the Wild Atlantic Way and looking for a documentary wedding photographer, this will give you a real feel for how a relaxed, natural day can unfold — and you can read more about how I approach relaxed, documentary wedding photography here.
A Relaxed Wedding at Screebe House, Connemara
Screebe House in Connemara is a truly special setting for a relaxed wedding. Set along the Wild Atlantic Way with views over Camus Bay, it offers a mix of elegance, warmth and natural beauty that makes it ideal for couples who want a personal, intimate celebration in one of Ireland’s most striking landscapes.
When a Photographer Asks You to Photograph Her Wedding
When Siobhan got in touch and asked if I would photograph her wedding, I was genuinely taken aback. Siobhan is a talented photographer herself, based in Galway. She knows what good photography looks like. She knows exactly what it takes to get it. For her to trust me with her day meant more than I could say.
I said yes immediately.
Screebe House Wedding Venue in Connemara
Screebe House sits on Camus Bay in the heart of Connemara — a Victorian country house on a 45,000 acre estate on the Wild Atlantic Way. In October, with the light the way it only gets on the west coast, it was something else entirely. Open fireplaces, high ceilings, views of the bay. It's the kind of place that does the work for you.
Wedding Morning at Home in Galway
The day started at Siobhan's parents' home. Hair and make-up, friends arriving at the door, the easy comfortable warmth of people who love each other well. There's always something about a family home on a wedding morning. You can feel it the moment you walk in.
Wedding Ceremony at Screebe House Connemara
The ceremony and reception were both at Screebe. Strong October sun came through the windows as Siobhan and Enda got married. I remember noticing Siobhan's sister during the ceremony. She couldn't take her eyes off Siobhan. She was completely undone — in the best way. Those are the moments I'm there for.
A Relaxed Wedding Day at Screebe House
The rest of the day was relaxed. A generous buffet. Siobhan gave a beautiful speech. Little Liam, their son, was everywhere — as small children at weddings tend to be. I was completely trusted to move through the day quietly, watch and document without interference. That's when I do my best work.
Evening Celebrations at Screebe House
Siobhan and her friends know how to have a good time. The dance floor was everything. By that point I was completely in my element — free to observe, react, and just be present. No posing. No directing. Just the day, as it happened.
Kind Words from Siobhan
"I'm not sure I even have the words yet to express how over the moon I am with the photos. They are everything. The best thing I've received all year.
The feeling of the day, the true essence of everyone there and just the love of the day. I can't stop looking at them.
Some of the photos are breath-taking. How you tell a story with your images. The photos on the morning with mum & dad and the kids are just so special. The ones with the kids watching the iPad made me laugh as I never saw those moments — to see snippets of the day for the first time just makes me so happy.
You were so discreet but somehow everywhere at the same time.
Even Enda this week was saying how easy it was to have photos by you.
You are so calm and patient, your vibe is exactly what a couple would want on their day. OMG you are made for this!"
Coming from a photographer of Siobhan's calibre, that means everything.

Your Day, Honestly Told
If you're planning a wedding at Screebe House, in Connemara or anywhere along the Wild Atlantic Way and want a relaxed, documentary approach, I’d love to hear about your plans. I photograph weddings for couples who don’t love being in front of a camera — who want someone who arrives, reads the room, and quietly gets on with it.
